J seems to really like her job most of the time. The main branch of our library is right down town. This brings in a wide variety of clientle. Translation: there are some creepy people who hang out there. Yesterday when J was Al went in to check out a few books. J was behind the desk and ignoring her father. Al called her name just to pester her. Evidently this set one of the librarian's radar on alert. She eyeballed him. Al sensed this and commented that J is his daughter. The librarian's face eased and she told Al that they keep an eye on their girls and that J is a cute one! Since J does not look anything like her dad the librarian would have no way of knowing that they are related. We loved hearing that they keep a watch on their employees. J and I got a kick out of the thought that Al was on Creepers watch!
This is not the first time that somebody from the library has played protector for J. One day she was walking out to her car after sunset. The time change had just taken effect and she did not think about how dark it was when she left the building. She said she heard this male voice say, "Hey, Little One." She turned to see the security gaurd following her. He told her to let them know when she was leaving because they want to keep an eye on them.
Ah yes, it does take a village.
School was canceled due to a power outage. J however still had to go to her math/science school. She decided to take Thing 2 with her. He should have fun. I planned on being productive and failed.
Originally I my plan was to hit the yarn store. Yesterday I finished a pair of socks from 2-at-a-Time Socks. The yarn I used was a bit pricey, but it was wonderful to work with. The pattern was just challenging enough that I had to think a bit as I knit.
Before T2's teacher left on maternity leave I gave her the finished Helena sweater. My favorite part of the sweater is the are the buttons.
That's it for knitting news. Maybe I will get to the store tomorrow. I hear socks calling my name.
We really don't think she is OCD, but stuff like this makes her feel good. Of course T2 saw this and took care of it. This would be the same boy who stacked a bunch of pennies in to a pyramid on my desk at school.
J was all excited because her special science/math school got new electrophoresis chambers. She told me how it was like Christmas opening the new boxes and setting them up. She went on to tell me about how they had plug things and that the gel would not do something it wasn't supposed to do. She was so happy that the cords, in addition to not being frayed, were black and red to coordinate with ---- I am not sure what, but I am guessing it was a good thing. Somehow this topped her first invitation to party with a college guy. He told her that they weren't going to smoke just do a little beer pong. Then she said, "I think he might like me." Ya' think?
I thought Steve Betz might appreciate the new fancy-shmansy science stuff.

Jenee likes her job; well, I think she does. She does complain about some things like the craft books are all different sizes and so it is difficult to keep that section neat and orderly. The quilters tend to make a mess of the books. Some of the clientele is a bit creepy. Her biggest gripe is the small section of Plastic Canvas Patterns. Why, why, why do they exist? Her plan is to hide these books in another section of the library. First she was going to move them among the calculus section, however, she was worried that some calc enthusiast may stumble onto them and decide to take up the craft. Her latest plan is to hide them in with the football books. I would like to say that she is joking, but I cannot with any certainty promise that those books won't find a way out of her section. `She promised that she would not steal them. She only plans on making it more difficult for anybody to find them intentionally. See, she does have a heart.
For many years I had long hair. One day I decided to chop it off. Well, I paid Daniel to chop it for me. Off with 10 inches. After that I just kept going shorter and shorter. Right now I am trying to grow it out. We will see how long I can tolerate it. It is only hair; why not have fun!
Last year J began getting her hair cut a bit more. She got layers and Daniel loves to play so she lets him. A couple of weeks ago I took this picture of her because the lighting was so nice, her hair looked especially *gulp* big and sexy, and she looked so pretty.
This is what she came home with:
She is happy with it too, but she saw the picture above and just said, "Damn it." She does not have another appointment scheduled and she told me to cancel mine. She knows now that once you get in Daniel's chair you get very brave and adventurous. She is just helping me to not decide to chop off all of my hard work. Good girl.
Since Al could not go to his family reunion, I decided to take the kids myself. I have never drove all the way up there all by myself. It wasn't horribly far; just about 5 hours. The bonus to the trip? A cool yarn store. Unfortunately, I did not have a plan. Fortunately, J came up with one. She wanted me to knit her a hat. She found a pattern and the yarn. She chose Cascade 220 Tweed. It knit up very quickly. Of course I bought 2 skeins and only needed one. Maybe mittens are in order.
The pattern for J's hat is super simple and a relaxing project.
Now I am working on a scarf from Knitty. It is the Lace Ribbon Scarf. I began making it with a heavier weight bamboo yarn that I bought on my trip up north. It is beautiful, but I do not have enough. I was going to call up there and have them mail some more to me. The amount I would need to make it long enough would cost a lot. Oh the irony. Yesterday I went into our new yarn store. They are still unpacking boxes but found what I needed: Classic Elite Sox. The let me dig through a box to find what I wanted. Of course I wanted two skeins so I could make the scarf extra long. While I was looking around they tagged it. I found a skein of a nice soft yarn to make a chemo cap for somebody I know. That was tagged at $7.95. When I was all rung up my total came to $50! Crap. I forgot to ask how much that Classic Elite would cost. Surprise. I kept it. They were so happy that I was buying it. In my dazed and Visa damaged state, I forgot to ask for the yarn to be wound for me. J helped me wind one by hand but I think I will make it back to the shop and ask them to do the other one. Well, on second thought, that could end up costing me as I am sure they will have more boxes unpacked.
Job Update:
- The interview felt good
- I made them laugh a couple of times or more
- The decision will be made tomorrow
- Amazingly, I am calm
Thing 2 Story:
J was serving mass without him. She is a head server and is in more demand. We got to mass and prayed. Before the presession, T2 said something that made me ask if he had said a prayer for Michael Phelps. He said no, but I sensed he had and said to him, "You did, didn't you." He smiled and said, "I just said,'Go Michael Phelps!'" T2 is 11. He is getting to that age where he has to be cool. It is so nice to see this young playful part of him still. I also like knowing that he prays for things that are meaningful to him. After mass we went and lit two candles; one for Michael Phelps and one for Dara Torres. Hey, she rocks and well, I said a little prayer for her at the beginning of mass. Oh that little nut did not fall far from the Momma tree. ,
Not me though. J is now an employee of the library. Very cool. Very fitting too. She loves to read.
She just had her interview this morning and they called a few minutes ago. Love that. No waiting. We were a bit worried because they had asked if she liked to work alone or with others. She likes to work alone but answered something like she likes to work alone but doesn't mind working with others sometimes. The lady wrote down alone. Well it must not have worked against her.
Al and I proud of her.
"I got a wrong phone call at 5:00 this morning. Steve was looking for Justin. I swear I heard a whoopie cushion too."
